What the postcards say

Reclaim Our Vote, a campaign of the Center for Common Ground, provides the approved script. It is a general get-out-the-vote message that encourages recipients to vote the entire ballot and reminds them that elections affect everyday concerns, including food costs, housing, health care, and voting rights.

The script does not name, explain, or explicitly advocate for or against any candidate, political party, or ballot measure.

What is on the ballot

In addition to federal and local races, Virginia voters will consider three proposed constitutional amendments concerning:

  • an affirmative constitutional right to vote and restoration of voting rights after release from incarceration following a felony conviction;
  • reproductive freedom; and
  • removal of Virginia’s constitutional ban on same-sex marriage and equal treatment of lawful marriages.

The postcards do not describe these amendments or tell recipients how to vote on them.

How the project works

Reclaim Our Vote also provides the voter names and addresses, local registrar information, and campaign instructions. Williamsburg Unitarian Universalists purchases the postcards and other local supplies and distributes the materials to partners and volunteers. Writers provide their own postcard stamps.

The League of Women Voters of the Williamsburg Area supports this nonpartisan voter-participation effort and is helping recruit postcard writers. The project aligns with the League’s mission of encouraging informed and active participation in government. In supporting this effort, the League does not support or oppose any candidate or political party.

What volunteers do

The message is not preprinted. Each postcard must be handwritten in clear print and hand-addressed. Writers must copy the approved Reclaim Our Vote script exactly and may not alter or add to it.

This is a write-and-hold campaign. Postcards may be written as soon as materials are available, but they must be mailed only during the official mailing window:

September 11–October 13, 2026

Materials will be available for pickup at Williamsburg Unitarian Universalists (3051 Ironbound Road) on selected Sundays. Everyone who signs up will receive an email when the materials are ready and with the available pickup times and dates.
