Privilege: a conversation starter
Recently, Dr. Colin Greene, Governor Youngkin’s appointee as the Virginia Health Commissioner for the Department of Health, said in a Washington Post interview that racism is not a public health crisis and talking about racism makes white people feel bad. The truth is, the impacts of systemic racism are well documented. In response to Dr. Greene’s statements, LWV-VA signed a letter as a member of the HAV (Healthcare for All Virginians) coalition to which we belong. Dr. Greene’s remarks underline the importance of listening to affected communities instead of thinking you already have all the answers. Addressing racism isn’t to make white people feel bad, it’s to help us be better people and make our communities better. Join us July 6 to continue our DEI work
